It's time for a journey through the NBC Wednesday schedule in 2023-24...

NBC continued offering much more original scripted programming than the other broadcasters by bringing in sophomore Quantum Leap and the second half of Magnum P.I.'s 20-episode NBC order. Neither one did anything too shocking here given last year's results, though Leap struggled in a Tuesday run in the winter and ultimately got the axe.

The Chicago trio was back in mid-January and continued the trend of modest decline that had started in 2022-23.

The narrow declines continued, with Chicago Fire once again dropping a bit more than the other two and thus bunching all their Live+SD ratings a little closer.

Quantum Leap: Already updated.
Chicago Med: 2022-23 was the first real downturn season for the Chicago trio, and they followed it up with more drops in 2023-24, but still nothing crazy. Grade: C+.
Magnum P.I.: Definitely a show that went against the grain in this weird season in that it had the same number of episodes (10 both years) and also premiered four months earlier in the season while most were premiering four months or more later. It also got moved from the Sunday wasteland into a better Wednesday slot with no scripted competition. All of this is a pretty major timeslot upgrade so I'm not really impressed with a little Plus growth, but I also don't think it should've been way more or anything. The show just didn't make much of an impression on NBC, never getting a chance to mingle with the audience for the Dick Wolf dramas. Grade: C+.
Chicago Fire: Like with the FBI's I'm resisting the temptation to give them all the same grade and nicking Fire just a bit more because it had the worst trend in both periods. Grade: C.
Chicago PD: Same as Med, Grade: C+.
