Hell's Kitchen returned to its fall/early winter role from last season. The 9/8c hour improved vs. last year's bomb comedies with the move of LEGO Masters, though Masters took a disappointingly large drop from last fall after The Masked Singer. Masters was renewed for next season before this one even premiered but it lost out on this slot to Crime Scene Kitchen for next fall.

Like last season, Hell's Kitchen wrapped early in the winter and turned the slot over to another solid Gordon Ramsay show, Next Level Chef. Another Masked Singer lead-out from last year, Farmer Wants a Wife, took over for LEGO Masters. The ratings were about the same but the growth was not as much since Fox got its act together with a stronger comedy hour last year.

Worth noting that Next Level Chef's average below includes a post-NFC Championship premiere. Comparing only Thursday episodes, it was barely down in Plus (88 this year vs. 90 last year) but the average was noticeably more frontloaded this year, peaking with the February episodes in the three weeks after the NFL exposure. By the spring, as you can see here, the trends were getting a bit shaky.

Hell's Kitchen: Though it appeared to stumble out of the gate, it gathered momentum throughout the season and peaked in its January episodes, finishing the season up in Plus. This year it was pretty much the best thing Fox had going outside of The Masked Singer (and it might pass that show next year). Grade: B+.
