It's time for a journey through the Fox Monday schedule in 2023-24...

With 9-1-1 off to ABC and its spin-off Lone Star sitting out the 2023-24 campaign, Fox plowed through the whole season on Monday with no scripted programming, and had to dig deep into its Gordon Ramsay bag of tricks to do so. It started with the return of Kitchen Nightmares, with its first originals since 2014, and it handily outrated its later Fox years on Friday. Then came season two of Special Forces: World's Toughest Test, down somewhat from season two (which aired just eight months earlier on winter Wednesdays).

Another old Fox staple returned for the winter in America's Most Wanted, and it had a little better Plus than the show's last revival in spring 2021 (58). TMZ Investigates, a regular series version of a bunch of previous Fox specials, fell off at 9/8c.

Ramsay was back for the spring with MasterChef Junior, which last aired on Thursdays in spring/summer 2022, followed by a fairly embarrassing return from the once-proud So You Think You Can Dance.

Kitchen Nightmares: Though this show withered away on Fridays for awhile in the first half of the 2010s, you have to go all the way back to fall 2008 for its last fully weeknight season, and that season had almost exactly the same Plus (74). Getting back to that level was probably the closest thing to a win out of Fox's Monday programming this season. Grade: B.
MasterChef Junior: While this show has a stronger ratings history than Nightmares, the last season in spring/summer 2022 had a 73 Plus, so we're not talking about much difference. Grade: B-.
So You Think You Can Dance: Once a nearly league average performer, this show has had a pretty rough time in the last decade (its last six seasons have all been in the 50's) but this was another level. Comparing it with what Special Forces did in the fall with a similar lead-in is particularly damning. I feel like this grade is probably being generous, but it felt kind of tacked on as an afterthought so I'm not sure how much better was possible. Grade: D-.
