It's time for a journey through the NBC Monday schedule in 2023-24...

Fall was the first of a couple pretty rough cycles for The Voice, dropping double digits after seemingly having stabilized for a few years. Lead-out new drama The Irrational, one of the few big four scripted offerings in the fall, was down a similar amount in the 10/9c hour vs. last year's Quantum Leap.

NBC brought in yet another America's Got Talent spin-off for the winter, but this one was on the low end of those efforts historically and massively behind last year's All-Stars. It settled in a similar place to AGT: Extreme from two years ago. With a much lower lead-in, The Irrational tapered off into pretty shaky territory, including just a 50 Plus in its last two episodes (the only two that had NCIS: Hawai'i competition).

Considering The Voice's struggles, reality competition Deal Or No Deal Island was arguably as strong a spring occupant as the 10/9c hour has had since the Blacklist/Blindspot days, almost matching last year's already decent That's My Jam.

The Voice Fall: These Plus trends are saying C- but I'm being true to my word from the intro post and being a bit kinder since they aired as normal in a season with an artificially small league average decline. After all, in other recent seasons, -23%/-24% would be barely down in Plus. Still, not a great development for a franchise that had looked pretty steady lately. Grade: C.
The Voice Spring: See above. Grade: C.
The Irrational: Given its diminished lead-ins, this clearly did way better than some recent lead-outs like Ordinary Joe and Bluff City Law, but I'd still rate it a little behind last year's Quantum Leap, and the other NBC fall newbie Found was probably stronger as well. The Irrational got a season two and will have the Tuesday Voice lead-in. Grade: C.
