CBS' big Monday shakeup got off to a strong start in fall 2021, with NCIS leaving its longtime Tuesday 8/7c slot and bringing huge improvement to the Monday 9/8c hour. The newest NCIS spin-off Hawai'i was up big at 10/9c as well, but certainly not as big. Meanwhile, comedies The Neighborhood and Bob Hearts Abishola continued their slow but steady improvement in the 8/7c hour.

The growth slowed quite a bit in the winter months, as Neighborhood and Abishola couldn't muster up the big winter bounces they got a year ago, and NCIS slowed down somewhat noticeably as well. NCIS opened 2022 with a moderately alarming 0.47, but bounced back in the subsequent weeks.

The lineup's growth recovered to nearly the fall pace in the spring period. Neighborhood and Abishola held up quite nicely in their spring episodes, and NCIS benefited against All Rise's rough final episodes a year ago.

The Neighborhood: Each year it seems like The Neighborhood is on the border between two grades. I gave it the more generous grade the last two years, but this time I will choose the harsher one since several other veteran comedies had good years as well. The Neighborhood/Abishola combo has quietly been a solid success for CBS, creeping upward each season. Grade: B.

Bob Hearts Abishola: Abishola had a bit more growth but gets to match Neighborhood's grade because it might have gotten some help from the far stronger 9/8c occupant. Grade: B.

NCIS: Big picture, the NCIS move to Monday definitely worked out, as Tuesday was basically even year-to-year while NCIS spurred significant growth on Monday. Focusing on just NCIS itself, it was a reasonable performance considering the move out of its historic timeslot, but still a noticeable step down from where this show has been for more than a decade. Grade: B-.

NCIS: Hawai'i: Average is significantly inflated by the post-football episode in January. Without that, it definitely had worse retention than the other two NCISes in their first seasons post-mothership. Sort of reminds me of season one of FBI: Most Wanted (which I gave a B) but probably a touch weaker. No problem with the renewal but nothing to write home about so far. Grade: B-.
