FINALS UPDATE: Manifest (0.5) and
Manifest (0.5) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- Numbers posted. ABC covered Round 1 of the NFL Draft (also aired on ESPN/NFL Network). Fox brought back puppet sketch show Let's Be Real for a regular run at 9:30, following its first appearance as a one-off special in October.
FINALS UPDATE: Presidential Address ABC (0.7),
Presidential Address CBS (0.5) and
Presidential Address NBC (0.6) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- The big four had a presidential address simulcast in the last two hours of East Coast primetime, with the ABC coverage (0.6/0.5) narrowly leading the way over NBC (0.5/0.4), Fox (0.4) and CBS (0.4/0.3).
- Fox won the 8/7c hour with a sing-along special edition of The Masked Singer (0.8), while ABC's The Goldbergs (0.5) and Home Economics (0.4) were on the low end with originals.
FINALS UPDATE: Black-ish (0.4),
Big Sky (0.4),
FBI (0.7),
Young Rock (0.5) and
New Amsterdam (0.4) adjusted up while
The Flash (R)
(0.1) and
Supergirl (0.1) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- The spring collapse of Big Sky (0.3) kept on rolling, with the show dropping once again following a very high 0.4 a week ago. At least in the rounded numbers, it didn't grow from Mixed-ish (0.3) this time, while Pooch Perfect (0.4) and Black-ish (0.3) tied their lows as well.
- ABC was far from the only network posting ugly results, as several other shows hit new prelim lows including CBS' NCIS (0.6) and NBC's Young Rock (0.4) and New Amsterdam (0.3). CBS' FBI (0.6) was also down to tie its low, though FBI: Most Wanted (0.6) held up fine at 10/9c.
- Fox was on the low end (but not new lows at least in the prelims) with The Resident (0.5) and Prodigal Son (0.3), and Supergirl actually upticked to a prelim 0.2 for the first time this season.
FINALS UPDATE: Sesame Street: 50 Years of Sunny Days (0.5) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- Fox's 9-1-1 (0.9) and 9-1-1: Lone Star (0.7) came down from last week's returns but were still enough to take the night against a declining The Voice (0.7/0.8) on NBC.
- CBS' The Neighborhood was back down to a preliminary 0.6, Bob Hearts Abishola (0.5) and All Rise (0.4) matched last week's prelims and Bull (0.5) was up a notch. ABC's two-hour Sesame Street special (0.5/0.4) was below last week's American Idol, but The Good Doctor managed to hang onto 0.5 at 10/9c.
FINALS UPDATE: Academy Awards (2.1, +0.4) and
60 Minutes (0.5) adjusted up while
Oscars Red Carpet p2 (0.6, -0.2) and
Oscars Red Carpet p3 (0.7, -0.3) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- Numbers posted. The Academy Awards returned to ABC, roughly two months after their usual date.
FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.
WHAT MATTERS:
FINALS UPDATE: Grey's Anatomy (0.9),
Young Sheldon (0.7),
United States of Al (0.6) and
Law and Order: SVU (0.8) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- Hell's Kitchen (0.8) ended a strong season by tying its season high in the prelims, and it helped Last Man Standing (0.5) do the same at 9/8c.
- The other networks were a mix of even to slightly down, with ABC's Grey's Anatomy (0.8) and Rebel (0.4) each inching down from last week's prelims and Law and Order: SVU (0.7) declining back to around its pre-crossover highs. The CW aired documentary 2040 (0.1).
FINALS UPDATE: The Conners (0.5),
Chicago Fire (0.9) and
Chicago PD (0.9) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- NBC's Chicago Med (0.9), Chicago Fire (0.8) and Chicago PD (0.8) were all up a notch from their last prelims two weeks ago, but still finished second behind a double-dose of The Masked Singer (1.1/1.2) on Fox.
- ABC mostly matched last week's prelims, but a notable exception was The Conners which tanked to a 0.4 at 9/8c. CBS had The Price Is Right (0.5) in the 8/7c hour, while the CW's Kung Fu managed a third straight 0.2 (though was down noticeably in total viewers from the first two weeks).
FINALS UPDATE: Kenan (0.4) and
New Amsterdam (0.5) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- Big Sky's spring slump continued in its return to the 10/9c hour (0.4), though it did edge its Mixed-ish (0.3) lead-in. Earlier in the night, Pooch Perfect (0.4) was flat and Black-ish (0.4) rebounded slightly from its low two weeks ago.
- With This Is Us back in repeats, it was a down night for comedies Young Rock (0.5) and Kenan (0.3), with the latter hitting a new prelim low.
- Fox was even with The Resident (0.5) and Prodigal Son (0.4). CBS opted for repeats (0.5/0.5) and Chauvin trial coverage (0.3) at the last minute, while Supergirl (0.1) aired after a repeat of The Flash (0.1).
FINALS UPDATE: Bob Hearts Abishola (0.6),
9-1-1 (1.1) and
9-1-1: Lone Star (0.9) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- Fox's 9-1-1 (1.0) and 9-1-1: Lone Star (0.8) returned from over a month off and looked solid as usual, likely to end up close to the 1.07/0.89 from their last episodes in March.
- After American Idol topped The Voice a week ago, this week it was The Voice (0.8/0.9) surging back well ahead of Idol (0.6/0.5), though The Good Doctor (0.5) still topped Debris (0.4) in the 10/9c hour.
- CBS' The Neighborhood (0.7) bounced back after last week's decline, while Bob Hearts Abishola (0.5) and the dramas (0.4/0.4) were even. The CW (0.2/0.1) also matched last week.
FINALS UPDATE: American Idol (0.8),
The Rookie (0.5),
Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (0.3) and
Family Guy (0.5) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- The Academy of Country Music Awards (0.8) became one of the first events to air a second time since the start of the pandemic, just seven months after a delayed edition in September 2020. It was down some more from the 1.0 prelim/1.1 final for that show.
- Elsewhere, ABC's American Idol (0.6/0.7) was on the downswing, thanks in part to the 7/6c hour tanking with a couple Home Economics repeats (0.3/0.2). NBC's Good Girls actually rose to 0.4 in the 10/9c hour, tying ABC's The Rookie at least in the rounded prelims, while lead-in Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist fell back to 0.2. The Fox animation (0.3/0.4/0.3/0.4/0.4) was even to slightly down.
FINALS UPDATE: Shark Tank (0.7),
20/20 (0.6),
MacGyver (0.5),
The Blacklist (0.4) and
WWE SmackDown! (0.6) adjusted up.
FINALS UPDATE: Station 19 (0.8),
United States of Al (0.6),
Law and Order: SVU (0.9),
Law and Order: Organized Crime (0.7) and
Hell's Kitchen (0.8) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:
FINALS UPDATE: Home Economics (0.5),
Call Your Mother (0.4),
Chicago PD (R)
(0.5) and
The Masked Singer (1.2) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- The revamped ABC Wednesday moved downward in its second week. While The Goldbergs (0.6) and The Conners (0.6) held on OK, Home Economics was down to a prelim 0.4 (after adjusting up from 0.5 to 0.6 in its premiere). And A Million Little Things fell to a preliminary 0.3 at 10/9c, leading out of the return of Call Your Mother (0.3) at 9:30.
- Week two of Kung Fu (0.2) appears to have held up well, exactly matching its preliminary total viewership of 1.373 million from last week. Fox won handily against NBC and mostly CBS repeats with steady The Masked Singer (1.1) and Game of Talents (0.6).
FINALS UPDATE: FBI: Most Wanted (R)
(0.4) and
This Is Us (0.8) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- ABC's Big Sky (0.5/0.4) had a double-episode return from a two-month hiatus in diminished fashion, headed for a new series low after hitting 0.6 for most of its winter episodes (and a 0.7 for the winter finale).
- The Fox drama duo of The Resident (0.5) and Prodigal Son (0.4) was also back after multiple weeks off, with the former down from its last few prelims but Prodigal steady/up.
- NBC got a rebound from Young Rock (0.6) at 8/7c, but no such luck for Kenan (0.4), This Is Us (0.7) or New Amsterdam (0.4). The CW matched last week's prelims with The Flash (0.3) and Supergirl (0.1).
FINALS UPDATE: American Idol (0.8) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- CBS returned from a long basketball break with The Neighborhood (0.6) and Bob Hearts Abishola (0.5) down a tick from four weeks ago, while All Rise (0.4) and Bull (0.4) were even.
- ABC's American Idol (0.7) upticked, pulling into a preliminary tie with NBC's The Voice (0.7), and the CW's All American (0.2) was back from more than a month off.
FINALS UPDATE: NCIS: New Orleans (R)
(0.4) and
The Great North (0.4) adjusted up while
60 Minutes (0.9, -0.3) and
The Equalizer (R)
(0.5) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- CBS hourly numbers (1.2/0.6/0.4/0.3) include almost a half hour of Masters overrun and (particularly the early hours) should adjust down in finals.
- ABC looks a bit down from last week with American Idol (0.7/0.8) and The Rookie (0.4) while the Fox animation (0.2/0.4/0.3/0.4/0.5) was about even with two weeks ago. NBC's Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (0.3) inched up alongside the return of Good Girls (0.3) to originals.
FINALS UPDATE: Shark Tank (0.8),
20/20 (0.5),
MacGyver (0.5) and
WWE SmackDown! (0.6) adjusted up.
FINALS UPDATE: Station 19 (0.8) and
B Positive (0.5) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- ABC's new drama Rebel (0.5) had a fairly quiet start in the 10/9c hour, looking no better than most of the A Million Little Things episodes in this slot all season. A Station 19 (0.7) and Grey's Anatomy (0.9) crossover in the preceding hours was pretty similar to last week.
- NBC saw a big fall for week two of the Law and Order: SVU (0.9) and Law and Order: Organized Crime (0.8) pairing, though SVU remained way ahead of its season high from before last Thursday. Manifest (0.5) was also on the downturn in the 8/7c hour.
- CBS perhaps benefited from the weaker NBC and was mostly a bit up from last week's prelims with Young Sheldon (0.7), week two of United States of Al (0.6), Mom (0.6), B Positive (0.4) and Clarice (0.3). Last Man Standing (0.4) returned at 9/8c to lead into The Moodys (0.3), and the CW's Walker (0.2) and Legacies (0.1) were back from a break.
Rebel
Thursdays, 10/9c, ABC
Status: ENDING after this season (confirmed on 5/14/2021)
Queen of the South
Wednesdays, 10/9c, USA
Kung Fu
Wednesdays, 8/7c, CW

Home Economics
Wednesdays, 8:30/7:30c, ABC
Status: RENEWED for next season (confirmed on 5/14/2021)
FINALS UPDATE: Home Economics (0.6),
The Conners (0.7),
Chicago Fire (0.8) and
Chicago PD (0.8) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- ABC's new comedy Home Economics (0.5) looked like a pretty typical American Housewife episode on premiere night, down a notch from its The Goldbergs (0.6) lead-in and its The Conners (0.6) lead-out. Later in the night, A Million Little Things (0.4) returned to its very first timeslot on Wednesday at 10/9c, matching its last Thursday rating with a second 9:30 edition of The Conners (0.6) leading into it.
- The CW premiered drama Kung Fu with a 0.2 in the 8/7c hour. It had a solid total viewer audience of 1.373 million, more than double any Riverdale audience in the hour this season. Nancy Drew ticked back up to a preliminary 0.1 at 9/8c.
- NBC's Chicago trio (0.8/0.7/0.7) had a mostly down night after returning so well a week ago, but it was still enough to rout CBS' Tough As Nails (0.4), SEAL Team (0.4) and S.W.A.T. (0.4). Fox led the way with steady The Masked Singer (1.1) and Game of Talents (0.6).
FINALS UPDATE: NCIS (1.0),
FBI (0.8),
FBI: Most Wanted (0.7) and
This Is Us (0.8) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- Back from another break, the This Is Us slump continued with another new low 0.7, which will certainly finish below the previous low 0.84 even with an upward adjustment. Its return was also no help to the surrounding programs, Young Rock (0.5) and Kenan (0.4) and New Amsterdam (0.4).
- ABC's Pooch Perfect (0.4) had a rough week two, dropping behind all preliminary results for previous occupant To Tell the Truth in the hour.
- In happier news, The Flash (0.3) was on the rebound for the CW, and the CBS dramas (0.9/0.7/0.6) returned from a couple weeks off in fairly steady fashion.
FINALS UPDATE: Championship Central (1.2),
NCAA Championship (4.1, +1.1) and
America's Most Wanted (0.4) adjusted up while
The Neighborhood (R)
(0.5, -0.7) adjusted down.
FINALS UPDATE: America's Funniest Home Videos (0.6),
The Equalizer (0.7) and
Ellen's Game of Games (0.3) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- With no more basketball help, CBS was on the downswing with The Equalizer (0.6), NCIS: Los Angeles (0.5) and NCIS: New Orleans (0.4), while The Rookie (0.5) perked up following American Idol (0.7/0.8) to give ABC a win in each hour.
- It was very ugly on the other big four networks as Fox's Bless the Harts fell to a 0.1 without its usual animated teammates, and two-hour special Malika the Lion Queen (0.1/0.2) did not do much better. NBC's Ellen's Game of Games fell to a 0.2 leading into Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (0.2).
FINALS UPDATE: 20/20 (0.5),
MacGyver (0.5),
The Blacklist (0.4) and
WWE SmackDown! (0.6) adjusted up.
FINALS UPDATE: Station 19 (0.8),
Grey's Anatomy (0.9),
Young Sheldon (0.7),
United States of Al (0.6),
Law and Order: SVU (1.7) and
Law and Order: Organized Crime (1.6) adjusted up while
Clarice (0.2) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- NBC got a serious breakout performance from its two-hour Law and Order crossover as Christopher Meloni returned to the universe, with SVU (1.6) posting the biggest rating for a scripted series without a football lead-out this season and Meloni's Organized Crime premiere (1.5) not far behind. It will be the biggest night for SVU in the Plus era by a wide margin (its previous high was a 182 way back in 2004).
- Leading into the crossover was the season three premiere of Manifest (0.6), nearly a year after its last season's finale. It was down from its last season premiere (0.9 on Monday at 10/9c in January 2020).
- The night's other premieres ranged from quiet (a 0.5 for sitcom United States of Al leading out of Young Sheldon (0.6)) to disastrous (a 0.3/0.2 return for The Moodys following Hell's Kitchen (0.7)).
- And ABC's Station 19 (0.7), Grey's Anatomy (0.8) and A Million Little Things (0.4) took a hit against the stronger NBC competition.
United States of Al
Thursdays, 8:30/7:30c, CBS
Status: RENEWED for next season (confirmed on 5/15/2021)
The Moodys
Thursdays, 9:30/8:30c, Fox
Manifest
Thursdays, 8/7c, NBC
Law and Order: Organized Crime
Thursdays, 10/9c, NBC
Status: RENEWED for next season (confirmed on 5/14/2021)
FINALS UPDATE: American Housewife (0.5),
Chicago Med (0.9),
Chicago Fire (1.0),
Chicago PD (1.0) and
The Masked Singer (1.2) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- One Chicago (0.8/0.9/0.9) had a strong return from a week off, matching its finals and beating its prelims from two weeks ago.
- But it was even to down for most of the rest of broadcast, with ABC's comedies (0.5/0.4/0.5/0.3) eyeing potential new lows. Fox's Game of Talents fell to its first prelim 0.6 after The Masked Singer (1.1), and Nancy Drew hit the CW's second preliminary 0.0 of the week.
