The 2020-21 Daily Year-to-Date Rankings

This is a sortable list of series and ratings averages for the 2020-21 season, including every series that has a page in the SpotVault or War of 18-49. For the first time, it is also a filterable list, meaning you can boil the table down to just one network, one category of programming or only new shows. (The striped formatting looks kinda ugly when filtered, but hopefully that is worth the added functionality.)

Spotted Ratings, Wednesday 9/23/20

FINALS UPDATE: Big Brother (1.2), America's Got Talent (R) (0.7), America's Got Talent (0.9), The Masked Singer (1.6, +0.2) and I Can See Your Voice (1.2) adjusted up.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Fox reality stalwart The Masked Singer (1.4) returned to top Premiere Wednesday, but it was down a steep 40%ish from the show's fall premiere a year ago. Its new unscripted lead-out I Can See Your Voice (1.1) held on well at 9/8c, clearly outperforming the dud year-ago post-TMS occupant (Almost Family) and posting about the same retention as the winter occupant LEGO Masters (which premiere to a 1.6 after a 2.0).
  • It was finale night for America's Got Talent (0.8/0.9) from 9:00 to 11:00, possibly eyeing the series' first 0.9 in over a month. CBS had its usual duo of Big Brother (1.1) and Love Island (0.6), with the latter hitting a new season high if it holds in finals.

FINALS UPDATE: Dancing with the Stars (1.1) and Love Island (0.5) adjusted up.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • Week two of Dancing with the Stars (1.0) got moved to Tuesday due to the NFL simulcast on Monday. It was down at least a couple tenths from its breakout premiere, but still drastically up on a year-to-year basis (vs. a 0.8 for week two of last season). It led into a Time100 special (0.4) at 10/9c.
  • Fox continued to roll out its modified fall schedule with two hours of the documentary series Cosmos: Possible Worlds (0.4/0.3), which had been initially slated to air as a Fox/Nat Geo simulcast well over a year ago before eventually airing on only Nat Geo six months ago. NBC began its finale week for America's Got Talent (0.8/0.7) leading into week four of resilient medical drama Transplant (0.5).

FINALS UPDATE: Monday Night Football (2.0, +0.4), The Neighborhood (R) (0.4), Young Sheldon (R) (0.4) and Filthy Rich (0.5) adjusted up.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • On a different kind of Premiere Monday, Fox rolled out a drama lineup of Spectrum acquisition LA's Finest (0.5) and leftover 2019-20 series Filthy Rich (0.4). The pair didn't do much, but they still managed to outrate CBS' own Spectrum series Manhunt: Deadly Games (0.3) at 10/9c.
  • ABC dominated with a one-time broadcast simulcast for Monday Night Football (1.6/1.7/1.6), but it would appear much of the audience stayed at its usual ESPN home. Summer series American Ninja Warrior (0.5) and Love Island (0.5) kept rolling into the regular season.

A18-49+ Season Comparison Chart (thru 2019-20)

This is an interactive chart allowing you to compare seasonal A18-49+ ratings (through 2019-20) for up to three different shows. It includes the 154 broadcast scripted shows with at least a 250 Career A18-49+, the same shows included on the Career A18-49+ Sortable Table.

Career A18-49+ Sortable Table (thru 2019-20)

This is the Career A18-49+ sortable table, with A18-49+ numbers that can be used to evaluate the full run of a series. This includes Career A18-49+, the sum of each individual season's historical-adjusted A18-49 rating, as well as how many times each show went over some of the A18-49+ label thresholds.

A few quick notes about what's in here:
  • This includes all 154 broadcast scripted series with a career A18-49+ total of 250 or higher. Unlike in previous years, that means a handful of netlet shows are in the mix (though of course they can be filtered out easily). The 45 "hit for CW" and 35 "solid for CW" labels are applied to the "hit" and "solid" counts for those shows.
  • This number will be incomplete for shows that aired before 2001, but to help account for this, the number of missing seasons is included in parentheses under the "Seasons" column. You can also filter in or out the shows that have missing seasons, as well as the shows still "active" (and thus still adding to their counts).

FINALS UPDATE: Whose Line Is It Anyway? (R) (0.1), Whose Line Is It Anyway? (R) (0.1) and Penn and Teller: Fool Us (R) (0.1) adjusted down.

WHAT MATTERS:
  • A revamped Dancing with the Stars (1.3) got off to a great start for ABC, roaring past last season's 1.0 premiere and potentially growing even more in adults 18-34 (a 1.0/1.1 vs. last year's 0.7). It could shift down in finals due to a Pittsburgh NFL preemption, but not enough to make it anything less than a big win. A 'Vote Or Miss Out' special at 10/9c (0.4) dropped significantly.
  • American Ninja Warrior (0.5) could not shake off its slow Labor Day start, and was in fact down a tenth from last week, but CBS' Love Island (0.4) did tick up from last Monday.
