WHAT MATTERS:
- The broadcast Sunday spring began a couple weeks earlier than usual this year, and on top as usual was ABC with a healthy two-hour return for American Idol (1.4/1.5), down about 15% from the year-ago 1.7 premiere. The Idol opener led into an encore of the For Life pilot (0.6), which was within striking distance of the first-run rating on Tuesday.
- The scripted premieres showed a lot less promise. Fox opened new animated comedy Duncanville (0.5) at 8:30, dropping by two tenths from its The Simpsons (0.7) lead-in and also getting out-rated by the lead-out veterans Bob's Burgers (0.6) and Family Guy (0.6).
- And NBC could not drum up interest in its female-skewing drama duo of Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (0.4, down two tenths from its January preview) and Good Girls (0.4). Good Girls was down three tenths from last year's spring premiere (0.7), when it had a much better lead-in from World of Dance (1.0).
- On CBS, NCIS: New Orleans (0.5) made the move to Sunday at 10/9c, where it was within a tenth of its NCIS: Los Angeles (0.6) lead-in. The clear weak link in the CBS drama trio was God Friended Me, tying its series low with a 0.4 at 8/7c. The CW's Batwoman (0.2) and Supergirl (0.2) also returned.
