Football Night in America p2 (1.6, -1.0) and
Football Night in America p3 (3.1, -1.5) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- After a one-year stop on Tuesday, the American Music Awards (1.8/1.8/1.6) returned to Sunday and were basically in line with last year's 1.8 (which had been down roughly 25% from the previous year on a Sunday).
- Fox had a huge Cowboys/Patriots game as a late afternoon lead-in, but it ended well before 8:00 and so The Simpsons (1.8), Bless the Harts (1.0), Bob's Burgers (0.9) and Family Guy (0.9) were not meaningfully different from their last NFL night two weeks ago. CBS (0.7/0.6/0.6/0.4) also looked similar to its last non-NFL Sunday two weeks ago.
- A blowout on Sunday Night Football (5.4/5.2/4.2) was nonetheless up from last week, and the CW (0.1/0.1) was repeats.
FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.

WHAT MATTERS:
FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.
WHAT MATTERS:- The Masked Singer (1.9) got a post-CMAs rebound, making Almost Family (even at 0.5) look even more dire by comparison. NBC's Chicago trio (1.2/1.2/1.1) and CBS' Survivor (1.2) and SEAL Team (0.7) were also up vs. their last originals.
- Everything on ABC (0.9/0.7/0.9/0.6/0.5) matched two weeks ago, before the CMA break, and S.W.A.T. (0.5) was also even. The CW's Riverdale (0.2) edged down, but Nancy Drew clung to 0.2 at 9/8c.

The Simpsons (R)
(0.4, -0.2) and
Bob's Burgers (R)
(0.5) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- ABC quickly gave back last week's Sunday bounce, as Kids Say the Darndest Things (0.6), Shark Tank (0.6) and The Rookie (0.5) all went back to their low-end levels. Fox fared better, with Bless the Harts (0.6) and the Bob's Burgers (0.8) / Family Guy (0.8) duo all rising compared with their last non-NFL episodes two weeks ago.
- CBS had NFL help (preliminary 5.3 in the 7:00 hour). The preliminary ratings starting at 8/7c for 60 Minutes (1.6), God Friended Me (0.8) and NCIS: Los Angeles (0.6) could receive some upward adjustment in finals since the primetime lineup actually started at 7:48 on the East Coast (including a dreaded 10:48 start for Madam Secretary).
- The CW (0.3/0.2) was even again, while NBC had a below-average Sunday Night Football (4.5/4.6/4.0).
FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.
WHAT MATTERS:
FINALS UPDATE: Superstore (0.8) and
Thursday Night Football (4.4, +1.1) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:
FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.
WHAT MATTERS:- ABC's CMA Awards (2.0/2.1/1.8) slowed the bleeding, dropping only a tenth or two from last year's 2.1 (which had been a roughly one-third drop from the year before).
- They also seemingly took a major chunk of audience from The Masked Singer (1.6), down a whooping four tenths from last week's two-hour edition. That helped usher the return of Almost Family (0.5) to another new low at 9/8c.
- CBS' Survivor (1.2/1.1) was the reality show to go two hours this week, and it dropped from last week and didn't help out S.W.A.T. (0.5) at 10/9c. Most resilient on the big four was NBC's Chicago trio (1.1/1.1/1.0), while the CW's Riverdale (0.3) and Nancy Drew (0.2) would be at three-week highs if they can hold in finals.
FINALS UPDATE: NCIS (1.1) and
This Is Us (1.4) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:- It was a brutal return from a week off for ABC's comedies, with new season lows for The Conners (1.0), Bless this Mess (0.6) and Black-ish (0.5). Mixed-ish (0.6) was the only show to avoid a new low in the roundeds, but its previous 0.6 was a very high one. The network did fare a little better than usual in the 10/9c hour with an old-skewing Dolly Parton special (0.6).
- CBS got a new low of its own from FBI (0.7) while the surrounding NCIS (1.0) and NCIS: New Orleans (0.6) were flat. NBC (1.3/1.3/0.7) and Fox (0.7/0.7) matched last week, and the CW (0.2/0.1) was repeats.
FINALS UPDATE: Dancing with the Stars (0.9),
The Neighborhood (R)
(0.7, -0.2) and
Bob Hearts Abishola (R)
(0.5, -0.3) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- ABC (1.1/0.9/0.8) and repeats on CBS (0.9/0.8/0.6/0.4) may adjust due to partial preemptions/delays on the West Coast.
- Fox's Prodigal Son (0.8) is preliminarily eyeing an uptick while lead-in 9-1-1 (1.3) was even. NBC (1.3/1.2/0.5) and the CW (0.2/0.2) were also close to their last originals.
FINALS UPDATE: Sunday Night Football (6.7, +0.8),
NFL Overrun (6.1, +0.8) and
NFL Overrun (6.1, +0.8) adjusted up while
60 Minutes (0.7),
Football Night in America p2 (0.6, -1.3),
Football Night in America p3 (2.3, -2.6),
The Simpsons (1.8, -0.3) and
Bless the Harts (0.8) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- With a national NFL lead-in, the Fox animation (2.1/0.9/0.8/0.9) got a boost, but may drop in finals since the NFL coverage ran late again. Meanwhile, CBS did not have the national NFL help and tied season lows with God Friended Me (0.6) and NCIS: Los Angeles (0.6), while Madam Secretary managed to fall to its first ever 0.3 at 10/9c.
- The ABC lineup showed some much-welcome life with Shark Tank (0.8) rising to a new season high at 9/8c, sandwiched by upticks from Kids Say the Darndest Things (0.7) and The Rookie (0.6) as well. The CW (0.3/0.2) was even, and NBC went big with the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football (6.0/6.1/5.7).
FINALS UPDATE: High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Special (0.4) and
WWE SmackDown! (0.9) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:
FINALS UPDATE: Thursday Night Football (3.9, +1.3) adjusted up.
WHAT MATTERS:
FINALS UPDATE: Chicago Fire (1.1) adjusted up while
Nancy Drew (0.1) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- Fox's The Masked Singer (2.0/2.0) returned with a double dose following two Wednesdays off due to the World Series, declining from its last original and matching its low from weeks two and three.
- Following some huge showings against the Series, it was a down night for Chicago Med (1.1), Chicago Fire (1.0) and Chicago PD (1.0). ABC's Modern Family (0.9) also dropped a tick while the 8/7c comedies (0.9/0.7), Single Parents (0.6) and Stumptown (0.5) matched last week.
- The only two shows to uptick on broadcast were CBS' Survivor (1.3 while its lead-out dramas (0.6/0.5) were even) and the CW's Nancy Drew (0.2, matching Riverdale (0.2) in the demo but trailing by more than 20% in total viewers).
FINALS UPDATE: NCIS: New Orleans (0.6) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- ABC got an extraordinary performance out of The Little Mermaid Live! (2.6), the biggest showing for one of these live musical events in raw numbers since Grease Live! (4.3) in early 2016. On an A18-49+ basis, it should easily top Grease (which had a 295ish) and become the biggest one of these on record. But it provided only a two-tenth boost for rookie drama Emergence (0.7) at 10/9c.
- Against the big event, the competition had a mixed to negative night. NBC's The Voice (1.3) actually managed a rebound, but dramas This Is Us (1.3) and New Amsterdam (0.7) inched down.
- CBS was down a tick with NCIS (1.0) but even later in the night (0.8/0.7), while Fox was steady with The Resident (0.7) but down again with Empire (0.7). The CW's The Flash (0.4) and Arrow (0.2) also dropped a tenth.
FINALS UPDATE: Dancing with the Stars (0.8, -0.2),
The Good Doctor (0.7, -0.2),
All American (R)
(0.1) and
Black Lightning (R)
(0.1) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- CBS gave back a bit of its recent Monday momentum, with Bob Hearts Abishola (0.7), All Rise (0.6) and Bull (0.6) all dropping a tenth while anchor The Neighborhood (0.9) was even.
- NBC matched last week with The Voice (1.3) and Bluff City Law (0.5) as did Fox with 9-1-1 (1.3) and Prodigal Son (0.7). ABC (1.0/0.9/0.9) and the CW's repeats (0.2/0.2) appear to be pending Monday Night Football preemptions.
FINALS UPDATE: NFL Overrun (6.0, +1.3) and
Sunday Night Football (6.7, +0.8) adjusted up while
60 Minutes (1.6, -0.3),
God Friended Me (0.7),
Football Night in America p2 (1.8, -0.7),
Football Night in America p3 (3.8, -1.3),
The Simpsons (R)
(0.5, -0.5) and
Bob's Burgers (R)
(0.6, -0.2) adjusted down.
WHAT MATTERS:- CBS was down from last week's prelims with 60 Minutes (1.9), God Friended Me (0.8/0.7), NCIS: Los Angeles (0.6) and Madam Secretary (0.4) despite having another national NFL lead-in. There should be a bit of downward adjustment but perhaps not as much as last week (these shows started 7 minutes after their listed times).
- Fox animation was back after a week off with The Simpsons (0.8) matching its last non-NFL rating, but Bless the Harts (0.5), Bob's Burgers (0.6) and Family Guy (0.6) all fell to new season lows. ABC had a big night from America's Funniest Home Videos (0.9) but it didn't help out Kids Say the Darndest Things (0.6), Shark Tank (0.6) and The Rookie (0.5). The CW (0.3/0.2) was even again.
- These shows had no World Series competition this week but were up against a considerably stronger Sunday Night Football (5.9/6.3/5.4).
FINALS UPDATE: No adjustments.
WHAT MATTERS:- Though the clocks haven't changed yet, it was still a nice Friday for some of the 8/7c offerings as American Housewife ticked up to 0.7 for the first time since premiere week and The Blacklist (0.6) is eyeing a new season high in the prelims. ABC was then even with Fresh Off the Boat (0.5) and down a notch from last week with 20/20 (0.5), while NBC's Dateline (0.6) was on the high end alongside Blacklist.
- After a one-week stop on FS1, WWE SmackDown! (0.8) returned to big Fox and was up a tenth vs. two weeks ago. CBS (0.7/0.6/0.6) and the CW (0.2/0.1) matched last week.
FINALS UPDATE: The Unicorn (R)
(0.5) and
Thursday Night Football (3.9, +1.1) adjusted up while
Evil (R)
(0.3) and
The Good Place (0.6) adjusted down.
