WHAT MATTERS:
- The new year began on a smashing note for Fox Wednesday, as reality newbie The Masked Singer (2.9) went simply massive in its 9/8c debut. This easily more than doubled last January's launch of The Four (1.2) on Fox, and even dismantled the huge Ellen's Game of Games launch on NBC (2.2/2.4) rather comfortably. Its lead-in was the return of Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell and Back (1.2), which was pulled up to a new series high in the process. UPDATE: The Masked Singer has ticked up to 3.0 in time zone-adjusted fast nationals.
- Fox's opening night had little standing in the way; CBS dramas SEAL Team (0.9) and Criminal Minds (0.7) returned and were down a notch from their fall finales. The 8/7c hour along with everything on ABC, NBC and CW were in repeat mode.
