Cablemetrics: South Park, American Horror Story, Vice Principals, Better Things

These numbers are current through Monday, September 18.

WHAT MATTERS:

• Comedy Central's veterans South Park (0.96) and Broad City (0.51) teamed up on Wednesday, with South Park still near the top of the cable rankings but giving back all of its big premiere night growth from last year. It did give a nice boost to Broad City, which was +11% from last year's premiere (when it didn't have such a lead-in).

• After last week's underwhelming premiere, American Horror Story (1.24) followed it up with the series' biggest post-premiere drop. Its first two points of the season have gone -27% and -31% y2y.

• A full year after wrapping season one, Vice Principals (0.33) returned to HBO for its second and final season, pairing with the tail end of the Ballers (0.38). It was down 40% from the year-ago series premiere, but Ballers was down even more from that night (a 0.79 on 7/17/2016). And Principals had a few points that were lower than the 0.33 late in season one.

• And FX welcomed back acclaimed but low-rated comedy Better Things (0.17) with a huge year-to-year tumble for the season two premiere. Like Vice Principals, it avoided a new series low, thanks to some mid-0.1 points throughout season one.

• Elsewhere, Rick and Morty (1.41) had a huge night for Adult Swim, growing to its best rating since the season premiere. And the penultimate episode of The Sinner (0.54) just missed out on last week's 0.55 series high, despite a season high lead-in from the Suits finale (0.47). The Sinner will go for six series highs in eight episodes with tonight's finale.
