Cablemetrics: The Last Ship, Survivor's Remorse, The Sinner, Game of Thrones

WHAT MATTERS:

• TNT veteran The Last Ship (0.34/0.30) was back on the Sunday scene, about two months later than it usually premieres due to production delays. This was only a slight Plus decline from its last premiere (a 0.41/0.39 doubleheader in June 2016). While that may seem acceptable, it is worth noting that Last Ship took a big post-premiere surge last year, to 0.57 in week two and settling around 0.5 for most of the season. So the show will have a high bar to clear if it wants to stay close to these trends going forward.

• Also returning on Sunday was the Starz comedy Survivor's Remorse (0.41), which had the benefit of a really strong point from Power (0.85) as a lead-in. Remorse exactly matched its 0.41 premiere from a year ago.

• Earlier in the week, The Sinner (0.51) made another big splash in week three. It was the second straight growth since the premiere, and this one was by almost a full tenth. With a 0.68 W18-49 vs. a 0.33 M18-49, it seems this is another case this summer of the former giants of basic cable finding success by swinging back in a more female-skewing direction. (TNT's Claws and USA's promising sophomore season of Queen of the South are other notable examples.) 

• HBO's Game of Thrones (4.71) gave back almost three tenths in its penultimate episode of the season, making another new series high for next week's finale a bit less of a foregone conclusion (but still likely). Ballers (1.08) was also on the downswing, but Insecure (0.66) stayed even and tied its series high again.
