Cablemetrics: Game of Thrones, Ballers, Shooter, People of Earth

These numbers are current through Monday, July 24.

WHAT MATTERS:

• Game of Thrones (4.33) took an 8% drop in its second week back on the air, exactly mimicking the week two drop from a year ago. So that kept its year-to-year trends as a blistering +18% in raw numbers.

• There was more good y2y news for HBO as comedies Ballers (1.22) and Insecure (0.55) took over in the post-Thrones hour after not having that lead-in a year ago. That marked a new series high for the already-strong Ballers, and it was a couple tenths above Silicon Valley's highest rating with the Thrones lead-in last year.
• At 10:30, the sophomore Insecure was also a touch above Veep's highest rating with the indirect Thrones lead-in in 2016. It was also a rather flashy 400% above its own 0.11 series premiere in October, when it was airing at 10:30 after Westworld and Divorce. (It grew from that 0.11 and mostly settled around a 0.15 during season one.)

• Elsewhere in the Sunday cable world, it was a really severe second week drop for The Strain (0.30). After a pretty good -16% drop for the premiere, week two was down a much less promising 29% y2y. However, Starz' Power (0.82) moved in a positive direction, with a new season high that was down just a few hundredths year-to-year.

• Back on Tuesday, USA brought back Shooter (0.41) for its sophomore season, 18% behind last year's premiere. It's a bit higher than where Queen of the South and Suits have been the last couple weeks, but it also has the big WWE lead-in.

• TBS' American Dad! (0.47) and People of Earth (0.30) both returned just a bit lower than when we last saw them. Earth averaged a 0.32 in its freshman campaign in late fall 2016.
