Cablemetrics: Silicon Valley, Fargo, Pretty Little Liars, Famous in Love

WHAT MATTERS:

• Like Veep last Sunday, Silicon Valley took a big hit in the absence of the Game of Thrones halo, down 58% year-to-year in its season four premiere. Still, 0.44 left it as the highest-rated original in this new HBO lineup, building on The Leftovers (which was down to 0.34 but is still having a big growth season overall). Veep held last week's 0.27.

• FX's Fargo returned last Wednesday at 0.40, down by 17% from the season two premiere.

• And Freeform's flagship Pretty Little Liars (0.65) returned to begin its final ride after a longer-than-usual hiatus. That was down big from its last in-season premiere (1.06 back in January 2016) but about where it opened its last summer run (0.67 in June 2016).

• PLL led into newbie Famous in Love (0.30), another extremely female-skewing drama from one of the PLL creators. Bad news: held less than half of its lead-in. Good news: it was still a decent bit better than the last post-PLL launch, Dead of Summer, which had just a 0.23 back in June.
