WHAT MATTERS:
- The Academy Awards have never been a major stumbling block for The Walking Dead, and this year was no exception; it was down just 6% to a 4.95 this week. That point was down 19% from the year-ago telecast against the Oscars, basically the same trend as the -20% from week two.
- Showtime's Homeland (0.29) also held up OK, down just 12% week-to-week, but Billions (0.15) had a bigger drop. HBO had an even rougher time against Oscar, with movie star-filled Big Little Lies (0.19) dropping nearly 40% from last week's premiere and Girls (0.19) down 30%.
- In a slow week for premieres, TNT had a very weak return from its procedural staple Major Crimes (0.23), which got moved to Wednesday after airing for years on Monday. And CMT used the Nashville lead-in to launch a new short-order series Sun Records (0.20) to fair results.
