Cablemetrics: The Expanse, The Magicians, The Fosters, Switched at Birth

These numbers are current through Monday, February 6.

WHAT MATTERS:

• After its breakthrough season two premiere, The Magicians (0.37) took a 29% drop in week two. A drop of that size is never a good thing, but 0.37 still puts it at the high end of its season one ratings.

• Magicians led into the return of The Expanse, another Syfy sophomore, at a 0.25 rating. That was down 24% from last year's 0.33 series premiere but still above most of its season one ratings.

• And Freeform premiered a Tuesday lineup with veteran dramas The Fosters (0.40) and Switched at Birth (0.24). It had been over 15 months since the last episode of Switched, and the ugly year-to-year comparisons are from the last time it aired at this time of year, which was two full years ago. (It was down a more reasonable one-third if you use the 0.35 summer 2015 premiere instead.) Fosters, meanwhile, looked quite healthy (especially by Freeform standards) in dropping just three hundredths from its 2016 winter premiere.
