WHAT MATTERS:
- TGIT staples Grey's Anatomy (2.6), Scandal (2.1) and How to Get Away with Murder (1.5) were back together on the same night for the first time in over ten months. It was a strong statement for the power of synergy, as Grey's and Murder each hit new season highs, with Grey's even topping its year-ago winter premiere (2.4)! Scandal, meanwhile, remained a shadow of where it opened last season (3.3) but did well enough to match the 2016 winter premiere (2.1).
- On the CW, newbie Riverdale opened with a 0.5 rating in the 9:00 hour. It led out of Supernatural (0.6), as that series kicked off its first regularly-scheduled run at 8:00 in 12 years. Riverdale looks a bit stronger than the No Tomorrow and Frequency launches from the fall, but will still have to hold up fairly well to avoid getting into pity renewal or cancellation territory.
- Fox had week three of Hell's Kitchen (1.2) and My Kitchen Rules (0.8).
- And with a bunch of premieres on tap next Thursday, the CBS comedies The Big Bang Theory (1.6) and Mom (1.2) and NBC's Superstore (0.7/0.7) / Chicago Med (0.7) / The Blacklist (0.5) all went into repeats this week. CBS had a tribute to Mary Tyler Moore at 9/8c (0.8/0.7) leading into the finale of Pure Genius (0.7).
