WHAT MATTERS:
- NBC opened the 2016-17 season for broadcast drama with the season two premiere of Blindspot (1.6) at 10/9c. It beat the show's last eight post-Voice results, though those episodes generally had much smaller lead-ins than this one, and Blindspot took a fairly sizable drop from 1.8 to 1.4 at the half. It won't get any easier for Blindspot as it heads for 8/7c starting next week.
- As for that lead-in, it was the two-hour finale of America's Got Talent (2.4/3.1), which will probably about tie its performance finale from Tuesday, and absolutely demolish the 2.1 season finale from a year ago.
- Fox had its last highlight of the summer with the season finale of MasterChef (1.3/1.5), which eked out a new season high in the 9/8c hour against the big competition.
- CBS' Big Brother (1.7) edged down a bit at 8/7c, leading into repeats of Criminal Minds (0.7) and (finally in its actual fall timeslot) Code Black (0.6).
- ABC had one last sextet of comedy repeats (0.7/0.8/0.9/0.8/0.8/0.6). Penn and Teller: Fool Us stayed at 0.4 but the original (0.3) and repeat (0.3) of Whose Line Is It Anyway? had a soft night.
