CW's upfront previews: Power Rankings | Upfront Questions
Other Upfront Answers: NBC | Fox | ABC | CBS | CW
Monday
Fall 2016 Schedule
8:00-9:00 PM Supergirl (New Network)
9:00-10:00 PM Jane the Virgin
Spot's Question: How will the CW aim to improve on its weakest weeknight?
It's with the CBS import Supergirl. If it could be a self-starter on a big four network (which I thought was worthy of renewal on CBS), then it can be a self-starter on the CDub. Not too sure about the flow between Supergirl and Jane the Virgin, but it's really unlikely to be a worse lead-in situation than Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was this season.
Tuesday
Fall 2016 Schedule
8:00-9:00 PM The Flash
9:00-10:00 PM NO TOMORROW
Spot's Question: What gets the best lead-in on the network?
Surprise! It's No Tomorrow, the show that actually seemed like the worst post-Flash fit of all. Will be really interesting to see the trailer on this one...
Wednesday
Fall 2016 Schedule
8:00-9:00 PM Arrow
9:00-10:00 PM FREQUENCY
Spot's Question: Is it time for the old mercenary Supernatural to go patch up another night?
Yes. It's heading to Thursday while Frequency, the only CW newbie that really seemed like a fit with the superhero shows, gets the Arrow lead-in. I thought Supernatural might stay put simply because the network didn't seem to have multiple pairings with the heavily male-skewing dramas. But with No Tomorrow getting one of those lead-ins, this makes sense.
Thursday
Fall 2016 Schedule
8:00-9:00 PM DC’S Legends of Tomorrow
9:00-10:00 PM Supernatural
Spot's Question: Will Legends of Tomorrow be back 1) in the fall, 2) on Thursday, and 3) for a full season?
Yes and yes. Not quite sure about the third part of the question, yet; with SPN taking the 9/8c hour for the full season, maybe Legends will still vacate to make way for iZombie or The 100 or something down the line. May find out more about this at the actual CW presentation.
Friday
Fall 2016 Schedule
8:00-9:00 PM The Vampire Diaries
9:00-10:00 PM Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (New Night)
Spot's Question: Will the vampire empire be brought back to a weeknight?
Nope. The Originals will sit out till midseason so the network can get the great-reviewed sophomore Crazy Ex-Girlfriend back on the fall schedule. Crazy is likely to be weaker than Originals, but this is easily the lowest-stakes place they could put it while still getting it back in the fall. So it's not really a big deal.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS
I thought this schedule was gonna be hard to screw up, but I'm worried that they may have gone and done it by putting No Tomorrow after The Flash. Again, I definitely want to wait for the trailer, but that really seemed like the last show that would be getting that lead-in. Much like with the CBS and NBC skeds, there's this one big decision on which the scheduling verdict will be rendered. Everything else seems fine, but it'll still be a fail if No Tomorrow is a fail.
