WHAT MATTERS:
- It was a legitimately impressive start for new The Walking Dead lead-out Into the Badlands (3.15), retaining 48% of its lead-in from The Walking Dead (6.51). This was better retention than the Better Call Saul pilot had (3.43 with a 7.96 lead-in), and only a handful of Talking Dead episodes historically have done better.
- E! brought back The Royals (0.41), its first foray into the scripted original game. It was a not-that-bad 18% behind last year's series premiere, but it basically held its entire premiere audience for the rest of the season last year, so we could see that trend get worse. And it's worth noting that it had a massive lead-in from Keeping Up with the Kardashians (1.27).
- A notable development on FX this week was the cancellation announcement for The Bastard Executioner, which wrapped its season on Tuesday with a pretty typical 0.31. Perhaps this helps clear a spot for Fargo, which has settled at a similar same-day level and has considerably more buzz going for it.
