Rating the Ratings: SVU defied the odds again, growing in Plus for the third straight season since its 2011-12 low point, hitting an even higher Plus than its first Wednesday season five years ago. This happened even though the season wasn't uplifted by a huge premiere and notable storyline like season 15, though it did get some boosts from a couple special The Voice lead-ins as well as crossovers with the Dick Wolf Chicago series. It would've been better for SVU if not for a rough stretch in January and February, when it had to face off with the biggest drama of the A18-49+ era in Empire. The show probably got some help from its new lead-in The Mysteries of Laura; while Laura had a similar Plus to previous occupant Revolution, it likely had much more shared audience with SVU. Grade: B.
Here's the now updated War of 18-49 post for Law and Order: SVU.
