Rating the Ratings: The Vampire Diaries couldn't reverse its massive slump from late in season five, as it was down 29% in season six to mark easily its weakest year yet. The show was never able to get back to a 1.0, usually hitting around a 0.8 in the fall, a 0.7 in the winter and a 0.6 in the late spring. There's no doubt that Grey's Anatomy's move to 8:00 didn't help, but there's also no doubt a big drop was coming regardless, based on how poorly it finished the previous season. This has made Thursday, a bright spot for pretty much the CW's entire existence, into a relatively shaky night heading into fall 2015. Now a TVD sans Nina Dobrev joins spinoff The Originals to try to squeeze out at least one more respectable-rated season. Grade: D.
Here's the now updated War of 18-49 post for The Vampire Diaries.
