*- For this winter's War of 18-49 updates, the A18-49+ is based on a projected league average, calculated by applying the league average's current year-to-year trend (thru 3/1/15) to the final 2013-14 average. This should help make these numbers compare more fairly with seasons past.
Rating the Ratings: A surprise seventh season renewal for The Mentalist ended up resulting in a credible piece of filler during hiatuses for The Good Wife on Sunday and Survivor on Wednesday, and really nothing more than that. It's slightly up from last season in Plus (the first positive Plus season in series history), but it was also scheduled more favorably than the two previous seasons on Sunday at 10/9c. For grading purposes, I try not to put a ton of weight on the inflation caused by series finales, but it is noteworthy in this case that there was basically no interest at all in the two-hour finale on February 18. It was actually down week-to-week! It ended on a disappointing note, but the season as a whole was not noticeably worse than expected. Grade: C+.
