I've done a "fantasy racing" thing that involves doing actual competition via the video game Jak X: Combat Racing. The defending champion (who beat me out in my own title defense the previous year) bombed to 12th (out of as many players in the top series of our league) during the 2008 season, although they were gone for a lot of the year because of a hand injury suffered elsewhere. Of course, only two podiums for the whole year (in 10 starts) was still pretty bad, enough so that they got demoted to the second-tier series for '09[*]. So you're in good company in that regard.
[*Rule is top six in the top series one year get to return automatically the next, while the next three are set aside for the season podium of the second-tier series, and the final three are given to players who haven't run the top tier before, usually from the second tier; rookies for that group come from the three-series third tier.]
Eh, what do I know? The only show I've watched in 2015 is Fernwood 2-Night.
