War of 18-49 Update, America's Got Talent (Summer 2014)

Let's take a look at the summer 2014 season (the ninth overall) of America's Got Talent on NBC.

Wednesday 9:001.8 2.112.4 -12%112bighit(sum) -2%

Rating the Ratings: America's Got Talent kinda quietly turned in another very good season as the summer's top broadcast series. The early-season numbers, including the 3.0 premiere, were quite impressive, especially since they were being compared with a 2013 season that launched alongside The Voice. And the Wednesday drop might be a touch exaggerated since the Wednesday originals started a couple weeks later this year. But as has seemingly become the norm for talent competitions recently, the show was down less early in the season and dropped more later in the season. On the whole, the show still looks pretty healthy. That certainly shouldn't be taken for granted, especially given the steep declines for Fox's similar competition series. Grade: B.

Here's the now updated War of 18-49 post for America's Got Talent.

Good season in PLUS for AGT but it was looking realllllly weak toward the end (it was often struggling to hit a 2 in its last weeks!)

They need to have a smaller hiatus between the pretape and live shows. They had too big of a gap and it hurt. Tons of repeats and recaps hurts it down the stretch. The results outrated the original a few times this year. Why? Because why watch the bloated 2 hour show when you can watch a 1 hour recap the next day. (My reason is I want to watch Middle/Goldbergs repeats).
.
Anyways, don't see it changing as it repeats super well. It would be cool to have them put season 2 out Undateable after the results show (moving them to 8).

Upon further inspection it seems they did cut the repeats down a bit from 27 to 21. Still not great

I thought you were a bit too generous here considering it finished the season a bit lower than desirable. Big Brother deserves more than a two level differential with this one IMO.

America's Got Talent has two ancillary benefits for NBC: its ability to repeat well and launching The Night Shift. (I don't give it credit for blunting Rising Star's debut on ABC; it would have caught on once AGT left the night. And I still think ABC really did a misstep by not debuting it right after the World Cup Final even if it was out of primetime.)

But Talent's lead-up weeks to the finale were getting worrisome. This show tends to rebound with a new season, though, so that may be a moot point. I agree with the suggestion to launch sitcoms such as Undateable after Talent's Wednesday episodes. It's the best lead-in and the network's so starved for comedy that it needs to use it on that then imported dramas (Taxi Brooklyn).
