Rating the Ratings: The Middle had almost exactly the same A18-49+ for the third straight season, dropping just barely less than the league average decline. After double-digit year-to-year declines for most of the fall, the year-to-year trend improved in the second half of the season, culminating with a one-hour finale that was slightly up vs. the 2013 finale. Perhaps the show's syndication exposure finally started to kick in. Given ABC's troubles elsewhere in the Wednesday lineup, this Middle drop looks pretty good overall, and there may be more reason for optimism in 2014-15; it will be joined by compatible The Goldbergs, a move that already seems to be paying dividends during summer repeat season. Grade: B.
Here's the now updated War of 18-49 post for The Middle.

I give it credit for finally finishing a season as an above league average show. Whisper: *League Average Show*
Maybe its just because I adore this show so much, I really thought it would get a syndication boost. Maybe next season. Solid B
That 1.3 Food Fighters just got justifies keeping that slot open. But do we really need a recap for America's Got Talent every Wednesday!
It's a little gem of an unassuming show about a highly flawed and dysfunctional family with perhaps two of the most flawed parents on television. The Middle doesn't wear its heart on its sleeve but there is most definitely a heart there.
The ratings parallel the show. The Hecks just get by without ever doing anything too noteworthy.
