 | Tonight, ABC returns to the singing competition space with the premiere of Rising Star, which seems most noteworthy for its real-time voting aspect. These premieres are always worth monitoring, as the music-themed competition has been the best way to change an entire network's fortunes in recent years. Not only do these shows have megahit potential, but they have megahit potential across multiple hours and multiple nights of the schedule. However, ABC's already proven that even this lucrative category is far from a slam dunk. Two years ago, ABC's so-called "major music series" Duets premiered to a measly 1.7 rating, and the category was stronger in general back then. I don't really find these promos any more appealing than Duets', and there seems to be some fatigue around the whole category. But maybe the interactivity factor will help this skew younger. Perhaps a key tonight: Rising Star now has to fight off an original episode of America's Got Talent, which NBC clearly placed on this night to try to blunt the Rising Star rating. Over/Under: 1.65. Over, for the premiere anyway -- based on SYTYCD's 1.7 on Thursday, albeit against reruns.
Maybe it has potential to be some kind of breakout...but the whole thing with the scheduling just sounds messy and with it facing AGT too I think it's more likely to bomb. Under

Going up against other female skewing, much more popular shows like AGT, True Blood, Kardashians and Drop Dead Diva finale will kill this reality show from the start. Also having a weak lead in like Wipeout will also kill it even more. UNDER.

Let's say about 2.0. Because it seems they promoted it a lot, NBA playoffs, and elsewhere.
Despite the competition (AGT, True Blood, The Last Ship, Falling Skies), I think there'll be much curiosity factor for Rising Star. I'll predict the OVER.
Under at 1.5. ABC threw Wipeout to the dogs by moving it to Sundays, and it will bring this down. It was never goin to happen against AGT anyway.

ABC's been pushing this show hard during World Cup games, and also during the NBA finals I'm sure. If they can do not-awful-for-Saturday-burnoff numbers with Sing Your Face Off, then maybe a show that they've put time and money into can do well, too.

Too late to answer, but let's not forget about ABC's The One: Making a Music Star. Premiered in summer to a whopping 1.1 in 18-49... in 2006 and lasted two weeks before being yanked.
