Spotted Ratings, Tuesday 3/25/14

WHAT MATTERS:
  • The fourth timeslot originals for About a Boy (2.0) and Growing Up Fisher (1.7) each gave back the tenth gained last week; the good news is there were no finals downticks.
  • The CBS drama lineup of NCIS (2.5), NCIS: Los Angeles (2.4) and Person of Interest (2.0) had an upswing night. PoI in particular seemed to benefit from Chicago Fire (1.0) going into repeats at 10/9c. NCIS also faced a repeat Agents of SHIELD (0.8).
  • On a roller-coaster night for Fox, Glee held onto the 1.1 "spike" from last week's 100th episode, then New Girl (1.2) hit a new series low, then Brooklyn Nine-Nine (1.3) bounced up in its season finale.
  • I don't really make anything of pilot encore ratings as a rule, but people may yell at me if I don't mention that The 100 got a 0.5 and 1.6 million viewers for its pilot encore at 8/7c.

It's true you shouldn't make a big deal about pilot encores. Hannibal got a 1.0 after an SVU repeat (.9), but fell below that for half of season 1 and all but 1 of this season. Vegas has a .9 for a pilot encore on a Saturday in October, but only I think a .5 for the one original it aired in April on Saturday.

People tend to judge these things as if they were normal repeats, and by that standard they all seem "promising." I haven't done any formal research into this, but it has historically felt to me like there
is no real correlation with how the rest of the originals do.

NCIS was first part of two-parter backdoor pilot for NCIS: NO starring Scott Bakula.
At least NCIS is up, after going down for 3 weeks in a row.

I Wanna Marry Harry (FKA Dream Date, dating reality show produced by Ryan Seacrest) will air in summer, Fox announced today.
Drama Wayward Pines is not on summer schedule. Then it seems it's planned for fall (back in January Reilly said production is already in 5th episode). It has only 10 episodes, so it might be on a Almost-Human-like schedule November to January.

Anyway, all of that wouldn't be interesting, if it combined wouldn't mean Fox is probably going with 3 hours of reality in Fall. I think 2 hours Utopia and 1 hour of MasteChef Junior.

BTW, Utopia opened online auditions 2 days ago (they're looking for 15 participants and some "reserves" that would enter from the bench later). It should be ready for the fall, but IS NOT on summer schedule. In case Fox is following original format with airing every day, it is speculated Fox would air it on FXX on some days. That is not FX that has pretty much defined schedule, but recently formed FXX channel which mainly airs syndicated sitcoms with some original comedies too.
