*- For this winter's War of 18-49 updates, the A18-49+ is based on a projected league average, calculated by applying the league average's current year-to-year trend (thru 1/5/14) to the final 2012-13 average. This should help make these numbers compare more fairly with fall seasons past.
Rating the Ratings: This season of The Voice started sensationally. The 5.1 demo premiere was significantly above the last couple premieres even though it faced full opening Monday competition and last year's fall season started early. And the show remained roughly even or slightly up year-ot-year through the blind auditions. However, the year-to-year comparisons got much less favorable in the second half of the season, and the Monday/Tuesday finales were down roughly 20%. Usually I would penalize a show for finishing weakly, but looking at The Voice historically it seems more that the fall 2012 season was the outlier. This one fell off in the second half about like most seasons have. And I don't have too many worries about this show's immediate future since lots of Olympics promotion will lead into the February premiere. Grade: B.
Here's the now updated War of 18-49 post for The Voice.
