Tonight, NBC has its only scripted series premiere of 2014 before the Olympics take over, the
Chicago Fire spin-off
Chicago PD. I'm meh on its prospects in general, but it must be said that if NBC wants to premiere a crime show on Wednesday, this is one of the best opportunities on the calendar. CBS pre-empts its own crime dramas (for
The People's Choice Awards), something that has historically helped NBC;
Law and Order: SVU and
ChiFi each went just over 2.0 on this night last year. That could help this pull off about the same rating as the
Chicago Fire pilot 15 months ago.
Over/Under: 1.85.

Chicago Fire is a fluke. Under.
I think the viewership will resist arrest. Under.
Under. But I'd love to be wrong on this!
The backdoor pilot saw Chicago Fire rise to a 2.0 for the penultimate episode, and down to a 1.7 for the finale. Over!
It's been pretty heavily advertised, but even if SVU hits 2.0 (which it very well might), I don't think CPD will maintain that for both half hours. Under
Under at 1.7. I don't think this is going to make it. Just being related to another show does not guarantee success, or even a huge audience out of the gate. The premiere of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland barely managed Last Resort numbers, and the OUAT brand is more defined (for lack of a better word) at this point than Chicago Fire. I mean, nothing really sets this apart from any other generic procedural other than the Dick Wolf name, which is only good to a point.
Saying under, but not that low. Around 1.6 or 1.7
Over.
Don't have a good read on this one. But have a feeling it could do solid, to stabilize at around 1.5 in few weeks. Ain't gonna happen if premieres bellow 1.8, so I think around 2.0.
Under
1.6

Oof. Feels like the right line. I'll take Under at 1.8.
The bicentennial half-dollar coin I just flipped came up tails. So under.
Under.
Uh...Under at 1.7. Just the general trend for premieres seems to be disappointment.
Under at about a 1.6.
Under (1.8)
