Spotted Ratings, Wednesday 12/11/13

WHAT MATTERS:
  • While down 25% from its post-Voice premiere, The Sing-Off still proved a pretty nice option in its two-hour self-starting debut on Wednesday; it did a few ticks better than NBC's usual Revolution / Law and Order: SVU mix, and it's still an improvement (even in raw numbers) on the show's previous full-fall cycle from two years ago. It led into a modest-rated Kelly Clarkson Christmas special, which posted the same number as last year's Michael Buble special.
  • The other networks all had their regular lineups in full original mode, most of them for the last time in 2013; ABC saw some recovery for Modern Family but a dip from Nashville, while CBS' crime procedurals actually did no better than their last airings on Thanksgiving Eve. (CSI was even worse.) The CW's The Tomorrow People ended up with a dip to its first 0.5, and an announced demotion to Monday followed later in the day.

THR had an article today (?) about how ABC's woes as the #4 network have been ignored because people can still use NBC as a punching bag esp with its Thursday disaster.
What would be the possibilities of Blacklist on Thursday? I'm thinking maybe at 9, which is super-weak right now, as I don't know what the crossover audience is between it and BBT which steamrolls over everything else. And 8 o'clock could still be a traditional NBC comedy hour, and Blacklist could provide a lead-in for another drama (though Scandal is difficult competition). NBC has to do something for Thursday, and having The Voice head-to-head against Fox music shows would likely damage everyone all around permanently.

I agree about NBC moving The Blacklist to 9pm Thursday. I had the same idea and I've seen several people come up with it independently.

9pm Thursday is one of the few slots with no procedural competition and it opens up 10pm Monday and Thursday to new dramas. NBC's comedies can be focused on the 9pm Tuesday post-Voice slot and 8pm Thursday.

It's a risk moving The Blacklist so early, but it's a risk with a lot of upside and NBC will have to move it next season anyway.

The other downside is losing 9pm Thursday for NBC comedy, which on paper is NBC's best comedy timeslot, coupled with the long tradition of NBC's Thursday comedy block. Still, their Thursday comedy ratings are so horrible that it's not much of a loss at this point.

Even Survivor getting renewed cannot make me happy tonight. I was, to my surprise, rejected early decision by my dream school, Duke University.

Go ahead, Spot, have your anti-Duke moment.

Very sorry to hear that. :( But I can assure you, there are other fish in the sea!
