At the very beginning of the A18-49+ era, CBS Wednesday was a problem night. But developing CSI: NY and Criminal Minds in back to back seasons cured a lot of ills. The 8:00 hour remained a problem for pretty much those dramas' entire time together, but starting in fall 2010 CBS locked it down by moving Survivor to the night. A second former Thursday megahit joined when the original CSI took over 10/9c in 2011, creating a solid three-hour lineup that was intact for three years.

2014-15 Update: Survivor had another banner year in 2014-15, dropping less than the league average for both the fall and spring (134) seasons. But the network as a whole regressed, as Criminal Minds gave back most of the Survivor gains with a slight drop at 9/8c, then 10/9c occupants Stalker and CSI: Cyber (82) fell well shy of CSI's previous production. They'll try again with Code Black this fall, and they well may be trying again multiple times (especially since a Criminal Minds spin-off sits on the shelf).
Notable midseason replacements:
- CBS' last tweak to this lineup before CSI came in was the spring 2011 Criminal Minds spin-off Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (92).

They should have stayed with the schedule of 2011-12.. I completely loved it
I would love to know the Alias ratings, they were that bad?
How to Live was 2012-13, it was just so late in the season it may as well have been in the next one. ;)
Still gutted about Eastwick. Every time I see its name, I cry a little.
2007-08 and then 2008-09... talk about sophomore slump. =|
Pushing Daisies was such a cute little quirky show. I liked it.
Wow at how strong Wife Swap and The Bachelor were back in the day. Seeing Wife Swap that strong is shocking! Seeing Happy Endings there breaks my heart a bit, still sad about its cancellation. They really shouldn't have screwed up with the 2011/2012 lineup apart from trying something like How to Live after Modern Family. Suburgatory and Revenge should have never left their original timeslots, it was such a good lineup for them that year!
To be fair, it wasn't a normal hiatus due to the Writers Strike, I am sure that played a huge part, especially with freshman shows that had less established audiences.
Agree
This is just sad. I think a huge problem was that ABC never realized what you were saying, which was how big DH was. They expected their newer shows to be able to withstand what that show did but they were never as huge to begin with. That was a huge miscalculation on their part and will cost them greatly.
