CBS Sunday was the last bastion for the regularly scheduled movie night on a fall weeknight lineup. Those movies became much weaker by the mid-2000s, prompting them to join the entertainment series game on a three-hour basis. It has not been one of the network's stronger evenings, but stalwarts like Cold Case and The Amazing Race have carved out lengthy runs.

2014-15 Update: Madam Secretary and The Good Wife showed some flashes of promise in the fall when they had NFL-boosted 60 Minutes lead-ins, but the whole lineup fell apart in the second half of the season. CSI became yet another veteran drama to drop almost exactly a third in the move to Sunday 10/9c Siberia. Marginal sophomore CSI: Cyber gets that "honor" for the fall, with CSI lead Ted Danson joining the cast.
Notable midseason replacements:
- After a post-Super Bowl launch in 2010, Undercover Boss became a true game-changer for the CBS Sunday lineup, averaging a 164 in its mid-season episodes (even after throwing out the SB ep)! It wasn't quite as strong in its full season on the night in 2010-11, but the pairing with CSI: Miami and a high point for The Amazing Race made for easily CBS' most competitive lineup.

Oh, I miss those Cold Case days, and I don't even like procedurals, usually. A solid and fun show.
Viva Laughlin, on the other hand, was such an epic flop. LOL. I didn't quite remember it did such awful CW-like numbers on its first (and last) regular timeslot showing.
I still don't understand why CBS threw Undercover Boss from its solid slot onto Friday nights. A very deserved 36 point drop, thanks to The Good Wife. TGW, the show that keeps on giving.
A 2.3 out of a 6.5 is possibly even less impressive. I make that 35% retention, which is practically what Lone Star got out of House, isn't it?
Did LoneStar get all that? Thougth it scored a 1-something for the premiere.
But LoneStar premiered in 2010 or 2011, while Viva Laughlin three of four years before. 1.1 in 2007-2008... most of The CW shows were doing better than that at that time, I guess. I don't even know why they greenlighted that mess of a show.
The Amazing Race fell hard! I think Survivor really needs to come for the rescue of this night!
