War of 18-49 Update, Supernatural (2012-13)

Let's take a look at the 2012-13 season (the eighth overall) of Supernatural on the CW.

Rating the Ratings: Supernatural's long, strange journey took a highly positive turn in 2012-13, as the Pedowitz regime restored the show to the midweek timeslot it seemed to still deserve even at its lowest point a year ago. The higher viewing levels plus the great lead-in from Arrow sent the show back to the same A18-49+ level posted in its last midweek season three years ago. And since the CW is pretty much a three-show network right now, there are even Supernatural spin-off plans percolating. I thought about bumping this down into the B+ range because noticeable year-to-year growth was to be expected given this upgrade. But the show still did nearly a full tenth better than I expected during Best Case/Worst Case season. Not many can say that. Grade: A-.

Here's the now updated War of 18-49 post for Supernatural.

I love when there are positive grades to be handed in such a lousy season ratings wise. Supernatural did incredibly IMO. I think people somehow under-estimate the positive effect it also had on Arrow. That is why I was so much against the move. I think there are synergies flowing both ways, not just from Arrow to Supernatural. But I hope it works out for the CW.

I understand that thinking but I, for one, am glad that they aren't just assuming a huge audience for The Originals, especially since TVD is at least 30% weaker than where it started.

You misunderstood me. I am not assuming a hug audience for The Originals at all and I honestly think that, even though some people are expecting it to perform very well, it will be a huge win for them if it performs similarly to what Arrow did this year - I don't think it will do that well even. I've had this discussion during the entire season last year ever since the cw's pilots were announced, but I would have gone with:

Monday: The Tomorrow People/ The Hundred [Just promote the hell out of the all new night, with two compatible and promising shows together... this is where all the promotional bucks should have gone to]
Tuesday: Hart of Dixie/ Beauty and the Beast
Wednesday: Arrow/ Supernatural
Thursday: TVD/ The Originals
Friday: well... what they have I guess, but the carrie diaries will be so embarassing IMO

If The Originals really takes off the way they seem to expect it to, there is plenty of time to move it later on (either midseason or next year). The way they are doing it... they are the ones who seem to expect it to do big numbers out of the gate, not me.
