Rating the Ratings: Once again, Rules was thanklessly called into midseason duty. And once again, it improved the time period relative to the failed newbie that had come before it. But like the other CBS Monday sitcoms, it was down a little over 20% year-to-year. It wasn't that awful a season, because its average lead-in dropped even more (from 4.2 on Thursday to 2.6 this year). But Rules had just barely scraped its way into this season, and it seems CBS finally got the comedy development they were hoping for last year. So Rules needed to do a lot better than this to stand a chance, and ultimately it ended at a nice round 100 episodes. Grade: C.
Here's the now updated War of 18-49 post for Rules of Engagement.

I don't think it ended because CBS wanted rid of it but rather because the cast wanted out after years of being a perpetual mid-season replacement on a fairly unremarkable show.
