First Two Weeks, Red Widow

WEEK ONE
Broadcast TV's midseason struggles continued with the premiere of Red Widow, which could manage only a 1.5 demo in its two-hour premiere on March 3. That was just a tick ahead of ABC's Zero Hour premiere from a few weeks prior, despite a decent lead-in from Once Upon a Time (2.2) and the show seemingly being a better fit on ABC than ZH. Very disappointing and pretty close to dead on arrival.

WEEK TWO
In week two, Red Widow moved to its normal 10/9c slot leading out of slightly lower-rated Revenge. While Revenge had a decent bounce-back week (averaging a 2.0 demo overall and a 1.9 at 9:30), Red Widow took a large 27% tumble to a mere 1.1. Not only did that tie week two of Zero Hour (which got pulled after three eps), but it was below any episodes of the cancelled fall occupant of the timeslot, 666 Park Ave.

PROGNOSIS
ABC might be facing a tough situation pretty soon thanks to their second big drama flop of midseason. They pulled Zero Hour after it got a 1.0 in week three, and surely they were not expecting to be in the same boat this early in the Red Widow run. If RDub drops to a 1.0 or even below that this week, what will ABC do? It would look really bad to do away with two shows that early in that short a span of time. So ABC might be a little more "patient" this time, but it seems almost impossible that Red Widow will claw its way back into meaningful contention. Cancel.

"First Two Weeks" is my look at... the first two weeks of a new scripted broadcast show's ratings. I also line up all of the premiere and week two drop numbers together.
