WEEK ONE
The pairing of Hart of Dixie and Cult was one of the most bizarre of the season. (Maybe only topped by tonight's Fashion Star/Grimm.) And for the series premiere of Cult, it showed. The show opened with just 860,000 viewers and a 0.3 demo. For comparison, fall 2012 occupant Emily Owens M.D. had 1.67 million and a 0.5, and we considered that dead on arrival!
WEEK TWO
For whatever it's worth, Cult basically held on in week two, dropping to 820,000 viewers and staying even at the heavily rounded 0.3 demo. The slot got a bit easier (ABC replaced a special The Bachelor with The Taste), so it was down a hundredth (-4%) in the True2 metric.
PROGNOSIS
After week two, the CW announced they were moving Cult to Friday 9/8c to lead out of Nikita while shuffling their regularly scheduled repeat over to Tuesday. Though the Nikita pairing would've made more sense from the beginning, at this point this isn't going to make much of a difference in either timeslot. It was probably just some kind of "We get that the show is unacceptable!" PR message. Since there aren't any reserves aside from more repeats, Cult is likely to stay on the schedule, but it will not last past season one. Cancel.
"First Two Weeks" is
my look at... the first two weeks of a new scripted broadcast show's
ratings. I also line up all of the premiere and week two drop numbers together.
