Rating the Ratings: This was the year the Shore washed up, and it did so at an incredible rate. This fall season was down a practically unprecedented 60% from the summer/fall season of a year ago. I just want to take another moment to marvel at the fact that MTV seemingly saw this coming and ended the show before this season even began airing! At that time, the most recent season still averaged well over a 3.0 rating and wasn't down that much from the 4.0ish peak days!
Though Jersey Shore remained one of the top shows on cable this fall, it's a legit question how much money MTV would make from these kinds of ratings. The costs surely skyrocketed during the show's peak seasons. And another season may well have seen the numbers plummet even more. I'll pander to the reality haters in the house with a Grade: F.
Here's the now updated War of 18-49 post for Jersey Shore.
