The Question, Sunday 1/6/13: Will This Season Be the Biggest Year-to-Year Loser?

The first five days of 2013 were merely a midseason appetizer: a lot of football, and a lot of stray originals ringing up big numbers against no real competition. On Sunday night, we've finally got something with real stakes, and it's the return of The Biggest Loser on NBC. The peacock hopes this longtime schedule staple can make a successful transition into a new role getting NBC through The Voice hiatuses. But it's no given that'll happen, as the show was trending down fast last season. Will this season be the Biggest year-to-year Loser? That's The Question for Sunday, December 6, 2013.

I wish we were ringing in the new year with a pick I had more confidence in. On the one hand, the show has been trending down in a hurry lately. On the other, I like that NBC gave it a bit of a break. Jillian Michaels, considered the face of this franchise, is back on board. And these January Sunday previews have worked out pretty well in the past, with a big audience available after the NFL playoff games are over. Otherwise weak shows like Chuck and The Cape have gotten a decent audience in this spot in previous years. So I'm saying it's down about 15% from last year's premiere. Pretty sure I'm gonna miss this by a half point, but I'm not sure in which direction.
