Spotted Ratings, Wednesday 1/9/13

WHAT MATTERS:

• A week after NBC Wednesday's surge against no competition, it came somewhat back to earth against some (but not that much) competition. With each competing network stronger than last week, Whitney and Guys with Kids each shed nearly a quarter of their week-ago demo audiences. That's a pretty soft level considering American Idol isn't even back yet. But Law and Order: SVU and Chicago Fire held up much better in yet another week against no CBS procedural competition.

• The return of ABC comedy Wednesday went pretty decently, with pretty much everything right around its season-to-date average and The Neighbors growing most of all after a finals uptick. Nashville lost the head-to-head with Chicago Fire for the first time under "normal" circumstances, but its upward adjustment after finals meant it had its best number since the pilot.

• Fox had one last low-rated Wednesday this season with special Stars in Danger: The High Dive. It did only a little better than last week's Mobbed. It lost out to CBS' night of specials, though the return of I Get That a Lot was down somewhat from last year's edition. But as Kaley Cuoco's sitcom grows, so does the awards show she hosts. The People's Choice Awards were up a tick from last year.
