Though ABC cancelled Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as a regular staple, tonight it returns to serve in more of a holiday special capacity. It'll run for two hours on each of the next four Mondays to help the network bridge the gap in that big plot of Monday real estate between seasons of Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor. Can ABC go Home again? That's The Question for Monday, November 26, 2012.
Home Edition in 2011-12 | Dancing with the Stars Lead-in |
1.41 average (mostly on Friday) 2.08 Sun 8pm average / 1.28 Fri average 1.3/2.3 (Sunday premiere, 9/25/2011) 1.4/1.7 (Friday finale, 1/13/2012) | 2.24 Monday average 2.4 last week (11/19/2012) |
Home Edition was cancelled for a reason; years of double-digit drops had made it a pretty marginal program, and ABC went on to prove it could do better in both its Sunday timeslot (Once Upon a Time) and its Friday timeslot (Shark Tank/Primetime: What Would You Do?). But it still averaged just over a 2.0 with a small lead-in on a weeknight last fall, and it should at least have a low 2's lead-in this week in Dancing. The "event" feel of this limited run might be a decent angle. The Voice is tough competition for this show, but I wouldn't be surprised to see tonight's episode bump up at 10:00 after The Voice is over.
Over/Under: 1.95. (The 9:00 and 10:00 episodes may be counted separately; if so, I'll average the two.)

EM:HE will do better than Skating with the Stars, but I can't see the 2 hours cracking above a 2.0. Even with a better lead-in courtesy of Dancing with the Stars, asking a show that's been off the air for approximately 11 months to pull 95% of its former audience in a season where all networks (save NBC) are down is too much.

Under. It's been off the air for a long time - people will have forgotten by this point.
I'll say under as well, but a little closer than most probably think at 1.8
