WHAT MATTERS:

• Fox was finally very close to ABC in a head-to-head football matchup. It was way up and ABC way down from last week's results. They also got the right result, as Texas won a tight one to set up a big game next week when undefeated Texas and undefeated West Virginia clash on Fox. ESPN narrowly won the primetime football race with Alabama/Ole Miss (1.4).

• CBS' soft year-to-yearlies continue with the return of 48 Hours Mystery, down three tenths from last year.
