- The season three premiere of The Voice slightly trailed last season's 4.4 finale. The Unders have it. It's not miles away from where I thought it'd be, but I still consider it a modest disappointment. Next step: holding up better in subsequent weeks. Starting at a 4.2 without Dancing with the Stars even in the mix yet, it is not that ludicrous that it could end up in the 3.0 range by season's end. I doubt even NBC would be thrilled with that.
- NBC then had another pretty "meh" result from The New Normal preview, which dropped nearly half from The Voice's last 15 minutes (4.9). I'm gonna hold off for 24 hours to see where we're at with that one, since this preview wasn't advertised till quite recently. Go On got its second pilot encore at 10:30.
- Elsewhere, the stronger NBC sent the finales of Bachelor Pad, Hell's Kitchen and MasterChef each down a tick. Only Pad was sharply down year-to-year.
- ESPN's Monday Night Football had the top two ratings of the evening but began on a sharply negative note year-to-year. They had a 4.7 for the Bengals/Ravens opener (way down from the year-ago 6.3 for Patriots/Dolphins), then a 4.9 for the Chargers/Raiders nightcap (down much less from the year-ago 5.4 for Raiders/Broncos). Again, I'm not signing the NFL's death note just yet, because this evening was a ton more competitive than 9/12/11 (which really just had the Bachelor Pad finale and a non-finale Hell's Kitchen).

Is NBC going to be happy with those Voice numbers? That messes up my Revolution guess of 4.2 because I don't think it's going to build from Voice. That looks fairly catastrophic, because next week when FOX goes online, it'll take a (fairly small) chunk, and then All-Star Dancing and CBS comedies come on the scene in a fortnight. The Voice will be drawing in the 3s likely, and then it'll be starting the Live Shows, I think. That's a recipe for disaster.
