Rating the Ratings: Most of this season saw big declines for Grey's Anatomy. In fact, the first month or so of the season was consistently down 20%+. From mid-February through about mid-April, the former megahit had to really struggle to even break a 3.0 demo, dropping as low as a 2.8 on April 5. But while most of the rest of TV endured one of the worst springs in recent memory, Grey's Anatomy was that rare show to catch a little fire down the stretch. On April 19, the show spiked to a 3.3 demo, maintained that for each of the next two weeks, and then grew to a 3.5 for the penultimate episode and a whooping 4.1 for the finale. That was actually up by 14% on the year-ago finale, something virtually unheard-of for this kind of show at this stage in the game. It wasn't this way for the season as a whole, but by season's end Grey's was once again the biggest drama on TV, and amazingly the show's rate of decline slowed for the fourth straight season. Now we'll see if it and the second season of Scandal can parlay this into some more ABC Thursday momentum this fall. Grade: B.
Here's the now updated War of 18-49 post for Grey's Anatomy.
