Rating the Ratings: If you were a returning unscripted franchise in 2011-12, you were pretty much having a good season if you could avoid being down 20%+ year-to-year. Almost all of them were down that much. And that's the main reason why this -1% season of The Amazing Race was such a pleasant ratings surprise. Following two straight seasons of double-digit declines, the show almost completely stabilized in season twenty, and the show's demo ratings were on as much of an island as ever on CBS' generally challenging Sunday night. For awhile it looked like the show might actually manage to finish even or up year-to-year, but that hope was done in by an oddly bad result in the penultimate week (a 2.3 on 4/29/12). Grade: B+.
