Rating the Ratings: Last spring was the first time we saw an obvious downturn from the low-3 demo level The Amazing Race had been stuck at for about four years. Said downturn continued this fall, with the show usually only able to break through the 3.0 threshold when it had huge help from a football-boosted 60 Minutes. The season as a whole finished down 13% from the year-ago fall season. That's one of the smaller declines among this fall's generally ailing reality franchises, but it's still atypical within the context of this show. The best spin to put on the season is that the year-to-year declines shrunk later in the season; four of the first five episodes were down 20%+ year-to-year (including a premiere down 21%), but none of the last seven episodes passed that number. That would seem to suggest the season was at least relatively well received by those who showed up. The finale was down 11%. Grade: C.
