- CBS got an absolutely colossal rating by college football regular season standards with their "Game of the Century" between LSU and Alabama. That game crushed ABC's regular football coverage, which was split between Kansas State/Oklahoma State and Notre Dame/Wake Forest. Despite the high drama in KSU/OSU, the ratings were at season low levels. The one good thing that can be said about ABC is that KSU/OSU grew more percentage-wise throughout the telecast than LSU/Bama. (The CBS game was already up to a 6.8 in the 8:30 half-hour, while ABC got just a 0.7.)
- Despite the huge football competition, the return of Fox's Cops (1.2 at 8:00, 1.3 at 8:30) somehow found season-high ratings.
