Summer 2011 adults 18-49 low/average/high: 1.4/1.94/2.4
Rating the Ratings: Unlike all previous summer runs for Wipeout, this summer's run was fairly consistent throughout, hanging right around a 2.0. Its average finished down about 30% from last summer. I think to really understand what happened this summer, you have to treat the regular season run in the winter/spring and this summer run as one continuous season. There was that typically huge spike in interest right at the beginning of the winter, then big drops, and then the summer run was never really able to rekindle that because there wasn't much of a break. At least for this summer, ABC's regular season run for Wipeout took one of the summer's biggest hits and made it into a fairly ho-hum player. The question going forward: is this where Wipeout's gonna be at from now on? With another regular season run coming down the pipe, it seems the show may have trouble getting people hungry for it again. Grade: D.
