Let's take a look at the summer 2011 season (the eighth overall) of So You Think You Can Dance on Fox.
Summer 2011 Wednesday adults 18-49 low/average/high: 1.8/2.26/3.1
Summer 2011 Thursdsay adults 18-49 low/average/high: 1.6/2.18/3.3
Rating the Ratings: Fox's So You Think You Can Dance took yet another hit in summer 2011, continuing the downward trajectory it's been on ever since it aired in the regular season in fall 2009. The drops did slow down, as the Wednesday airings were down just 5% from last year and the Thursday airings down 10%. Most of those drops came in the back half of the season, as the season actually started off quite promisingly. Its Thursday (3.3) and Wednesday (3.1) premieres were each up three tenths from the summer 2010 editions. By the closing weeks of the season, even breaking a 2.0 demo was a struggle. Nine summer 2011 airings dropped below the 2.0 threshold; only two airings in the previous history of the show had done that. Since the show ended much worse than it started, I'll be a little harsher than the drops indicate. Grade: C.
