Each year, most/all broadcast networks produce a half-hour special that previews their fall lineup, usually focusing heavily on the new shows. These specials are pretty low-profile and usually not very entertaining, but I find the various odd ways they're scheduled kinda interesting. Here's the info on this year's editions:
ABC Fall Preview Special will be available on local ABC affiliates starting on August 27, so check local listings. Last year, I also found a national telecast on TV Guide Network, but there's no sign of that yet this year. The special is hosted by Ramon Rodriguez (of Charlie's Angels) and will highlight the new dramas (Angels, Revenge, Once Upon a Time, Pan Am). Thanks to Pavan at SitcomsOnline for the info. Last year, ABC had two separate specials for comedies and dramas. They may do that again, though a comedy version is yet to be announced.
CBS Fall 2011 Preview is hosted by the cast of The Big Bang Theory. As usual, CBS is the only of the big four networks to schedule a national primetime telecast of the special, this year on Thursday, September 8 at 8:30/7:30c.
The 2011 NBC Primetime Preview Show is hosted by Whitney's Whitney Cummings and Chris D'Elia. It's currently available on hulu as well as NBC.com. The show will run on local NBC affiliates along with NBCUniversal cable entities in the coming weeks. Watch below:
Fox Fall Preview Special is hosted by Mary Murphy of So You Think You Can Dance. It's also available only on local affiliates.
The CW Fall Preview Special is hosted by Kristoffer Polaha (Ringer) and Maggie Q (Nikita). An interesting quirk: Polaha actually hosted last year's special as a star of a different show (Life Unexpected)! Again, check local listings for the 30-minute special, but the CW will also nationally broadcast an elongated version starting at 9:15/8:15c on Monday, September 12, the day before they begin rolling out their new shows.
